Teach math using water play
Jan 12, 2023One of the great things about Nonverbal Autism Homeschool is access to brilliant teaching hacks shared by parents in the program. Last month, mom Nichole shared how she modified one of my counting games to include water play, her daughter's favorite activity.
I've been having a hard time getting Tosh back into the school routine this semester. After a month-long break, every attempt has been met with an immediate no.
Until today. I used Nichole's hack to convince Tosh to begin his subtraction unit. It worked like a charm! He completed 12 problems without a single objection and I'm confident he'll do it again tomorrow without a fuss.
You can use this game to teach counting (put 5 animals in the water), addition (put 3 animals in the water, now put 4 more animals in - how many animals total are in the water) or subtraction, as I've shown in the video. Pretty cool, huh?
Enrollment for Nonverbal Autism Homeschool is always open. I will give you the curriculum, training and support you need, PLUS you get access to a community of parents who have genius ideas you can use with your student!
Thanks, Nichole! 😍
